🌴 Which Lomas Hospitality Resort Is Right for You? My Firsthand Guide to 7 Riviera Maya Resorts

If you've ever started researching the El Dorado resorts in Riviera Maya, you've probably discovered pretty quickly that there are a lot of choices — and figuring out the differences between them isn't always easy.

I recently had the opportunity to experience the Lomas Hospitality collection firsthand, staying at El Dorado Royale and visiting several of its sister resorts throughout Riviera Maya:

• El Dorado Casitas Royale

• Generations Riviera Maya

• El Dorado Seaside Palms

• El Dorado Seaside Suites

What became very clear during my visit is that these resorts are not interchangeable.

While they share the Lomas approach to hospitality, each has its own personality and is best suited to a different type of traveler.

And while most of the El Dorado properties are adults-only and certainly popular for romantic getaways, adults-only doesn't mean couples-only. Solo travelers, friends traveling together and adult groups can enjoy these resorts just as much as couples.

So rather than write seven separate resort reviews, I thought it would be more helpful to answer the question I would ask when matching any traveler to one of these properties:

Which Lomas resort is right for you?

🌴 First, What Is Lomas Hospitality?

Lomas Hospitality is a Mexican hospitality company with a long history in Riviera Maya.

Its resort portfolio includes the adults-only El Dorado properties, the family-friendly Generations Riviera Maya, and the exclusive Palafitos Overwater Bungalows.

One thing you'll hear frequently at these resorts is More Inclusive™. The concept takes the traditional all-inclusive vacation beyond the resort itself by incorporating additional experiences that connect guests with the destination.

Across the collection, you'll also find an emphasis on food, service and distinctly Mexican touches.

But that's where many of the similarities end.

A sprawling resort like El Dorado Royale delivers a very different vacation from intimate El Dorado Maroma — and Palafitos is in another category altogether.

Here's how I would break them down.

🌴 El Dorado Royale

Best For: Adults Who Want Lots of Choices

El Dorado Royale is the largest and most expansive of the adults-only Lomas properties I experienced, and it's a great choice for travelers who enjoy having plenty of options without leaving their resort.

The property is lush, tropical and spread across beautifully landscaped grounds, with numerous pools, restaurants, bars and activities.

Because of its size, Royale feels more like a resort destination than a small boutique escape. You can spend several days here and continually find somewhere different to eat, swim or relax.

That variety also makes Royale one of the more versatile choices in the collection. It can work for couples, solo travelers, friends traveling together or small groups who want an adults-only atmosphere without being surrounded exclusively by honeymoon vibes.

What Stood Out to Me

The sheer variety.

This is a resort where you can choose between a quiet pool day, activities, different dining experiences or simply wandering the expansive tropical grounds.

Something to Consider

The beach would not be my primary reason for choosing El Dorado Royale. If having an exceptional swimming beach is at the very top of your vacation wish list, I'd probably steer you toward another Lomas property.

I'd recommend El Dorado Royale for: adult travelers who enjoy a larger resort, lots of amenities and plenty of choices throughout their vacation.

🌴 El Dorado Casitas Royale

Best For: Romance, Privacy and a More Exclusive Experience

Casitas Royale takes the expansive El Dorado Royale experience and makes it feel considerably more intimate.

Instead of being part of one large resort environment, the Casitas are arranged into smaller enclaves with their own pools and a greater sense of privacy.

This is one property where the romantic positioning really does fit. For honeymoons, anniversaries or travelers looking for a private, upscale escape, Casitas offers an appealing balance: the amenities and dining variety of a large resort with a much more intimate home base.

What Stood Out to Me

The enclave concept.

You can retreat to a quieter, more private environment while still having access to the broader resort experience.

Something to Consider

You're still part of the larger Royale complex, so this isn't the same experience as staying at a truly small boutique resort.

I'd recommend Casitas Royale for: honeymoons, anniversary trips and adult travelers who place a premium on privacy, tranquility and a more exclusive atmosphere.

🌴 Generations Riviera Maya

Best For: Families and Multigenerational Trips

Generations Riviera Maya stands apart from the other resorts in this guide for one very important reason:

It's family-friendly.

That makes it an interesting option for multigenerational vacations, destination weddings, groups and families who want an upscale all-inclusive experience.

It's also particularly useful when planning a larger group where some travelers want an adults-only experience but children are part of the overall trip.

What Stood Out to Me

The accommodations and family focus make Generations feel purpose-built for groups traveling together rather than simply being a resort that happens to allow children.

Something to Consider

Adults specifically looking for a child-free vacation have several better-fitting options within the Lomas collection.

I'd recommend Generations for: families, extended-family vacations, multigenerational celebrations and groups traveling with children.

🌴 El Dorado Seaside Palms

Best For: Adults Who Love a Lush, Traditional Tropical Resort

This is where the Lomas comparison gets particularly interesting.

El Dorado Seaside Palms and El Dorado Seaside Suites are connected, but they don't feel like the same resort.

Seaside Palms is the more traditional, tropical side of the experience.

Think lush vegetation, winding pathways, palm trees and a more established Riviera Maya resort atmosphere.

There's certainly a romantic quality to the surroundings, but I wouldn't limit Palms to romantic travel. The laid-back atmosphere can work equally well for solo travelers, friends or anyone who simply wants an adults-only tropical escape.

What Stood Out to Me

The grounds and overall ambiance.

Of the two Seaside experiences, Palms has more of that lush, relaxed, tropical character that many travelers picture when they imagine a Mexican Caribbean vacation.

Something to Consider

If your tastes lean toward sleek, contemporary architecture and modern accommodations, you'll probably prefer the Suites side.

I'd recommend Seaside Palms for: adults who prioritize atmosphere, tropical landscaping and a more traditional resort experience.

🌴 El Dorado Seaside Suites

Best For: Adults Who Prefer Modern Design and Ocean Views

Walk from Palms to Suites and the personality changes.

Seaside Suites feels more contemporary, vertical and ocean-focused.

The accommodations and architecture give this side of the property a much more modern aesthetic, making it a strong option for travelers who care about their room and view as much as the resort grounds.

It's also an adults-only environment that doesn't need to be framed as a romantic getaway. The modern style can work well for couples, solo travelers, friends or adult groups who prefer contemporary surroundings.

What Stood Out to Me

The contrast with Palms.

These two properties are a perfect example of why choosing a resort based solely on a brand name can be misleading. Palms and Suites may share "El Dorado Seaside" in their names, but they offer noticeably different environments.

Something to Consider

Travelers looking for lush gardens and a traditional low-rise tropical atmosphere may find Palms more appealing.

I'd recommend Seaside Suites for: adult travelers who prefer contemporary accommodations, ocean views and a more modern resort aesthetic.

🌴 El Dorado Maroma

Best For: Beach Lovers and Travelers Who Prefer a Smaller Resort

El Dorado Maroma offers a completely different experience from sprawling El Dorado Royale.

It's smaller, more intimate and located on Maroma Beach, one of Riviera Maya's best-known stretches of coastline.

That makes Maroma particularly appealing to travelers who don't need endless pools, restaurants and activities and would rather have a more relaxed resort experience centered around a beautiful beach.

Its size and atmosphere certainly make it attractive for honeymoons and romantic getaways, but those aren't the only travelers I'd consider for Maroma. Someone traveling solo who prefers a smaller resort or friends looking for a quieter adults-only beach vacation could appreciate it just as much.

What Stood Out to Me

The combination of intimacy and location.

This is one I'd look at carefully for clients who tell me, "We don't want a huge resort."

Something to Consider

The tradeoff for that smaller atmosphere is naturally fewer choices than you'd find at a property such as El Dorado Royale.

For the right traveler, that's not a negative at all — it's exactly the point.

I'd recommend El Dorado Maroma for: beach-focused travelers and adults who prefer a smaller, more intimate resort experience.

🌴 Palafitos – Overwater Bungalows

Best For: Honeymoons, Milestone Celebrations and Bucket-List Trips

And then there are the Palafitos.

These overwater bungalows sit off Maroma Beach and deliver an experience that's fundamentally different from a traditional all-inclusive resort room.

This isn't simply about having nicer accommodations.

It's about waking up over the Caribbean Sea.

The privacy, views and novelty naturally make Palafitos a standout for honeymoons and milestone anniversaries, but you certainly don't need to be celebrating a wedding to stay here. This is ultimately about travelers who want an extraordinary accommodation experience and are willing to splurge for it.

What Stood Out to Me

The experience itself.

There are plenty of beautiful suites throughout Riviera Maya, but very few accommodations can replicate the feeling of staying in an overwater bungalow.

Something to Consider

This is unquestionably a splurge, and I wouldn't recommend paying the premium simply because it's considered the "best" accommodation.

For travelers who will appreciate and use the experience, however, Palafitos can turn the resort itself into one of the highlights of the trip.

I'd recommend Palafitos for: honeymooners, milestone celebrations and travelers looking for a true bucket-list experience.

🌴 So...Which Lomas Resort Would I Choose?

That's the interesting part.

There isn't one "best" Lomas resort.

After seeing them firsthand, I think the better question is:

What kind of vacation do you want?

If Your Priority Is...	I'd Start With...

One of my biggest takeaways from visiting the collection is that these resorts aren't simply better or worse versions of one another. They're different.

Someone who loves the sprawling grounds and endless choices at El Dorado Royale might find Maroma too small. A traveler specifically looking for the intimate beach experience at Maroma might find Royale overwhelming.

Someone who loves the lush tropical atmosphere of Seaside Palms might have a completely different reaction to the contemporary Seaside Suites — even though they're right next to each other.

And whether you're traveling as a couple, on your own, with friends or as part of a larger group can absolutely factor into which one makes the most sense.

✈️ The Mapman Take

One of the biggest benefits of visiting resorts in person is discovering the things that aren't always obvious from a website or brochure.

How big does the resort actually feel?

What's the atmosphere around the pool?

How easy is it to get around?

What does the beach really look like?

Does the resort feel quiet, social, romantic, modern or traditional?

And, most importantly:

Who would I send here?

That's why I don't believe there's such a thing as a universally "best" resort.

There is, however, a best resort for the way you like to travel.
